Thunder Chickens in Dixie

Thunder Chickens in Dixie!

Thunder Chickens in Dixie!

Turkey hunting in the south is just as important as cheese grits, and every year I look forward to the spring season as much as anything I do in the woods.
This past spring was a great one!
It started in AL where the Bone Collectors cameras started off at the Loose Tin Plantaion, with Joey Massengale, and then went over to the Southern Sportsman Lodge to hunt with Paul Butski and Jim Mason.
Our cameras wanted to try to document what turkey hunting in the south was really about. The up coming January Bone Collector TV show will take viewers through the body and spirit of the culture that make up the southern gobbler hunter. The kills are up close and personal, 10 yards and closer and the characters sometimes need a translator to understand the comments coming from the people in the show that have been born and raised way below the Mason Dixie line, with the exception of New Yorker Paul Butski who for over 20 years has come south to guide hunters at the Southern Sportsman lodge.
The cameras captured everything we were hoping to find that will help you understand why this southern tradition is more than just killing turkeys.

WILL HUNT FOR FOOD!

Walking through the airport, it never ceases to amaze me the looks and stares that come from the many frequent flyers as they notice a camo jacket or my Bone Collectors hat and a Will Hunt for Food T-shirt.
Even though many times it brings upbeat, positive conversation of hunting stories or comments from men and women alike that have seen  television show episodes that I have been on over the years, so many times the looks and words are those of disapproval.

Why does this floor me? Simple!

We were all born to hunt, its in us all, man, woman and child. Society however has spoiled the human race by doing its hunting for us, therefore stealing the ability from many of those who live on concrete and steel to practice their most natural God given gift.
Should this talent or gift be sheltered, I think not. It is the culture of people who still understand and know how to celebrate the spirit of the hunt to teach and introduce those who have been shielded from the predator that lies within their soul.  It is not the responsibility of society to take care of our race, however it is our races responsibility to take care of and mold society in a way that is as close to perfection as God intended it to be.
Hunting is a perfectly natural instinct! For those non believers who doubt this view remember these comments the next time your stomach growls and hunger pains hit you  as you head down the interstate and you start looking for an exit with the ever visible Golden Archers nearby.  See, you are hunting, but opt to let McDonalds do your killing for you.
For those who know the true wonders and joys of the outdoors, we can still enjoy a cheeseburger from Mickey-D’s from time to time, but know also, what it is like to do our grocery shopping in the wild.

Here we come Kansas!

You gotta love Kansas!
We rolled into Kansas on the 3rd of November and we were excited for several reasons.  First, it was the first trip this year that all three of us were together, (Michael, Nick, and myself) Two, it was going to be my first time hunting Kansas.  And third I have been
friends with Blake for several years but I have never met Miranda Lambert. She was in camp with us ready to sling some carbon.  The forecast called for cool temps and strong winds, but Tom McMillan told us on our way out the deer were rolling .we were biting at the bit.

Stay tuned for the results

T-Bone and Big Iowa

So proud of this Bone ,
I was fortunate enough to draw an Iowa archery tag this year, and it
has been a dream of mine to hunt in Iowa and harvest a big Iowa buck . Well on
Oct 29, that pimple came to a head . I had hunted with Lee and Tiff the
first part of October and had marked off a couple of weeks during the season so
that if I was not successful I could go back, cuz I did not want to eat a
Tag sandwhich .

On our second trip back we hunted some with Lee and Tiff ,
and scouted out a piece of property that Whitetail Properties had listed and
it had some awesome signs on it . Nick and I hung a great morning set and got
this rock crusher the first morning we hunted. I can’t wait for you guys
to see the footage . I have never been so proud .
