For me its pretty simple things that make my heart warm and my spirit and soul giddy!

The smell of Cornbread cooking in the kitchen, or Bacon frying after a cold frosty morning hunt. Pecan Pie. Peach Cobbler. The fragrance of the new spring flowers blooming in April. The smell of popcorn popping on a lay around Friday night. The pungent smell of bluegill bedding on a warm May afternoon. The smell of homecoming when I get home from a long trip letting my senses know all is secure.

The sound of hardwood leaves crunching under the hoof of a whitetail deer approaching my stand in early bow season. The birds singing and the thunderous gobble of a long bearded turkey in March. A Whiperwill calling out his lonely song on a humid southern night.

The distant drums of a marching band practicing while sitting in a deer stand letting us know that high school football is about to begin. The sound of my kids voice saying, I love you daddy or I missed you. Hearing my wife say, I need you. The Sunday morning sermon, or hearing the Scripture John 3:16 read aloud. The pledge of Allegiance from a kindergarten class including One Nation Under GOD!

These smells and sounds remind me that I’m a simple man and that life’s rat race is not worth it in the grand scheme of things, It is these sounds and smells that make life indeed worth living to me. Listen up and sniff hard, happiness is all around us!

Our country is still the best ever! Even though we all face scary times economically, scariest of all is the potential shift in culture, or should I say potential culture loss in being represented in the main media.

As a hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman who enjoys a small garden, listening to country music, while shelling butter beans on my front porch with my wife and kids, I get nervous with the things I see on the news and speeches I hear from our politicians who are making decisions for our country’s best interest. I will always be country and look to backstrap and turkey breast to feed my family, while proudly standing up for the protection of our 2nd amendment to protect us good folks from evil!
