Armed forces

I have said it before and I will say it again, I think hunters are the best Americans. We're givers.  We’re not waiting for anything to happen, we are making things happen, not only in our community but around the world, too.

I get letters and read Facebook and Twitter posts from members of The Brotherhood that have put their love for the outdoors on hold to serve a higher calling and defend our country as soldiers in the Armed Forces.  I read these messages in awe, knowing the tough sacrifices they have made to fight for America. And yet, so many say thanks for what I do, which can’t hold a candle to their service. It is my turn to say thanks to these heroes.

Sunday, I will ship out with Armed Forces Entertainment to Southwest Asia as part of the Outdoor Legends Tour. I am licking my chops to visit the boots on the ground we have in the regions of Germany and the Persian Gulf and getting to know the men and women serving there. They have gone beyond the call of duty and I look forward to spending time with them.

Over the 10 days spent there, there will be lots of laughing, lots of hunting stories swapped and lots of memories I am sure I will never forget. There will be no press, no production crews or sponsors – just personal time spent with each other, many handshakes and saying, “Thanks for you service.”

I am as excited as a dog that is about to get a treat for this tremendous opportunity. I hope to bring a little of the outdoors to those stationed there. I know they miss it and I am itching to show my gratitude to the soldiers who have gave so much. I am honored for the chance.
