SHOT Show Showcase

Posted on Mar, 03 2010 in Michael's Blog 2 Comments »

The first of the year is a crazy time for everyone around here. Between the ATA, SHOT Show, and all of the consumer shows, man, the traveling gets tough. But the SHOT Show is always a great time to catch up with friends and I was fortunate enough to be able to host the Golden Moose Awards again this year. Hope you enjoy this little behind-the-scenes showcase.

From Shooting Interviews to Making Music

After a long day, and sometimes long night, of shooting interviews with the Surf & Turf crew, music is often what we turn to too loosen up and close out the day. Here’s a quick behind the scenes look at just how good our band really is! (And no, that’s not Jay Gregory, it’s my son, Mason.)

P.S. Note the other sleeping son on the couch. We are truly that entertaining!

Straight A’s in School and Mason Waddell Goes to TX

My 9-year-old boy Mason knows hunting isn’t always a slam-dunk. Baggin’ his first deer in AL (a state record spike) and then shooting a few does in GA, he has seen first hand how aggravating hunting bucks in the southeast can be. Around Thanksgiving Mason and I hunted for 5 days straight on my lease in GA and never even saw a deer, making his earned trip to TX a certain treat.

TX is a lot of fun to hunt for adults and especially kids, as a matter of fact; starting last year I use an annual trip to TX, as a hunt to work for. Mason has to get straight A’s and good conduct in order to go.

Well this year Mason rocked out on the A’s in school so off to TX with went with the Flextone Game Calls crew.

After 3 days of hunting, Mason connected with an old 130 inch 11 pointer, and his first Javelina with his Remington 7mm-08! He also smoked him a big doe with a crossbow!
We had a blast hunting together and the whole experience was captured on tape for a Bone Collector show episode. It was funny seeing how hard it was for me to keep Mason’s safety on, because he was ready to shoot everything that came out into the food plots.

I just hope now he will still find the fun in hunting GA, he says he wants to now more than ever since he scratched his finger in the lone star state.
